"Not now, Lord, but you know I love ya!"
Jonah got up early the very next day,
Caught a ship and went the wrong way.
A storm came up, the boat began to rock.
The men grew scared, their knees began to knock.
Jonah said, "It's my fault. I've failed the Lord.
Save yourselves, throw me overboard."
The men came forth and Jonah they did toss.
"Sorry about that, but it's not our loss."
Jonah agreed as he began to fly.
Just as he landed a big fish swam by.
The fish looked at Jonah with a great big grin.
He opened his mouth and drug him in.
At this great feat, Jonah began to wail,
"I can't believe I'm in the belly of a whale."
It's dark down here and slimy as well.
"Save me, oh Lord," he started to yell.
God said, "Shut up, Jonah, and listen to me.
When you've learned your lesson, I'll set you free."
For the next three days they had a talk.
Jonah soon learned he'd have a new walk.
He'd preach Gods word and follow His plan.
Pleading for the soul of every man.
He was more than willing to preach the word.
He'd never again try to run from the Lord.
He'd learned his lesson, he'd learned it well.
There was no escape from the belly of a whale.
God reached down His mighty hand.
He brought that fish upon dry land.
The fish' mouth flew open in great surprise.
Out of his belly, Jonah did rise.
As soon as his feet hit the warm sand.
He took a deep breath and off he ran.
He made a three day trip in just one day.
Eager to let God have His way!

Inspiring.
And he preached to the Ninevites with bold skill.
They all including the King repented and said they'd do God's will.
That's how I would end it. I recently read the first two or three books of Jonah. This is fun to read. Thanks so much for sharing. You are very talented.

My dear sis....How I love this poem as the story of Jonah is a story of a second chance....and enduring hardships for that chance...Your rhyme is excellent and you were able to carry it all the way through....Bravo!

Great job.
I almost sang this one. With just a few changes in structure, it would be a song!
It has some funny lines in it, too. Enjoyed this one much.

Amen! and Fantastic. Nice flow and brings the point out, or the lesson in the way that it is to be perceived. All about obedience, and you can't run from it so you might as well do it. Excellent. So much enjoyed this. Blessings.

I once attempted to do a Jonah and the whale poem but I couldn't find the right rhyming words. You did a great job on this poem. Better than I could ever do.

Well poetic liscence is ok when you spread the word, and this would be a wonderful Sunday School story/Rhyme for the little ones in my opinion. Well done... Scott
