Halloween Always

Halloween time has come at last.
A holiday based in the past.
Now, children dress up and play
and collect candy on their merry way.

But for some this time is eternal.
where the frights are internal.
We wears masks not to fright,
but to keep our ghastly selves out of sight.

Our masks are not of the novelty kind,
but rather to keep everyone blind.
Blind to what we are underneath.
What really is horrifying is under our sheath.

What we keep hidden from everyone else.
Is darker than the deepest wells.
It would turn all hair white,
and fill them all with fright.

Our true selves can never be seen.
We are to horrifying for Halloween.
Though we wish to go into the light.
We must always hide in plain sight.

Our dark inner beings,
through a mask we'll always be seeing.
Putting on a charade hope.
Not noticing the ones who can cope.

We're the ones who loathe and hate,
waiting to be healed by fate.
Knowing that it will never come.
Under the mask we'll hide and become numb.
