Fool's Fantasy

Out of the foggy forest
he takes a stride,
sword at rest,
to his side.
A Knight to come and save you.
It's what you've always wished
but do not be so easy to follow
when you don't know who he is.
Yes, he can promise you things you've always dreamed,
things more precious than gold and jewels,
but do not be deceived
he is but an illusion for fools.
His intentions are shallow and cruel:
to steel you away from your life,
to make you his waiting fool,
but to never wed you for his wife.
Before you leap onto his ebony steed
consider just this one thing:
are you ready to trust a stranger,
you going to let those words cheat you?
Are you ready to put your heart in the hands of danger,
for all the independence you've worked for
to fall regrettably and indefinitely to the floor?
It's naive to believe
he'll sweep you off your feet.
It's a fool's fantasy
your willing to drop everything for
and leave.
Love is a mist you can never quite catch.
And though he might seem like the perfect fetch
your pain is your virtue-
something you'll always live up to.
So keep your feet to the ground
and your eyes at the start.
There is always an end to get you down
so don't forget the most important thing of all:
always guard your heart.
