Fleeting Twist

autumnal color
resplendent golden rust reds
frost threatens too soon

safety in numbers
mums nestle citronella
orange pumpkin gourds smile

glowing amber light
showcases seasonal gifts
hardy mums show off

painterly setting
hues softened as day turns night
autumn captures hearts

glorious new blooms
know that harsh winter hovers
glamour lost to frost

heaven give us rain
expecting sun not snowflakes
fleeting twist of Fall

FLEETING TWIST

Author notes

Autumn cheer
to appreciate quickly
before winter whisks it away
all too soon!!

I grow Chrysanthemums, as our weather turned rainy I rushed to pick as many as possible and have them all around the house. The photos are beautiful and as you said capture Autumns dying colours

We had snow in October last year but I had forgotten about that. The weather can play tricks, this year it was good.

      In climates like this
      one must capture the joy
      quickly!!!And then find
      ways to preserve it.

      Oh, picturing all the flowers
      in your house--how wonderful!!

Nice to see you stop by, Patti,

      No trees on the scene,
      just smaller varieties
      of plant life!!!

I wanted to capture the scene on my porch
before the cold swept in prematurely!

Loving them both, the vusuals and the words,
that's what is is all about for me!

Nice, the way you expressed that.

Beautiful...you have a way of making nature come alive, can even imagine the fragrance as you bring the photos to life...miss my garden, I had all geometric, inner plots, with annuals...The border was 47, rose bushes, fenced by evergreens with trellis entries...ah! memories...

I can't even imagine taking care of the extensive garden you used to have.
But the sweet memory lives on. Oh, I love the trellis entries! Sonething
so romantic about them---most likely from all the movie scenes set inthe
the garden under a trellis arch!!!

But I am happy with what I can still create---as long as I have some strong
arms to get everything in place. Friends are a blessing!!

Your poem and pics have given me fuel. I have to get out today and get more mums and maybe some cornstalks too. Your fall display is gorgeous! Our frost date is Nov 17.

It is the twists that make life interesting and keep up on our toes. We fall too quick into a state of complacency unfortunately. Personally, I'm tired of twists right now but I do acknowledge their purpose and worth.

Wonderful words of wisdom, artfully presented Aes.

I was just in Crystal Cave at Betty, summoning Tonto and the Lone Ranger (riding Goliath)
Jake chanelling the announcer!!!! ah, those adventurous days of yesteryear!!!

      I. too, would like a straight path...but ours in WI leads to 28 overite on the weekend.
Too soon, too soon!!! November 17! Well, WI must have some charms. But there has
been a spell over it lately, Monday nite seeing multiples of purple #4, green and gold
devotees cheering for red+blue, an upside down world, for sure. A mega-twist, all because
of the _________GM. Ladylike, I leave off the adjectives.

But happy I don't need grand, am happy with a few plants. Wondering if the rosemary
will make it thru the snow! To the right, with leeks to the left, still snipping then
      like chives.

I was just over there too. lol Jersey here yesterday briefly. Ghetto anxiety has scarred us for life. lol

You have plenty. Too much care for otherwise. I know about that even with a sprinkler system. Good periennial base saved me this year but looks like a jungle along the fence. Morning glories went bezerk. lol

I love leeks. Wise snipper you are. Must be wonderfully aromatic when you step out the door.

She seemed to fly in and out like a ghost!!!

And now it's time to fill the water jugs.
Whenever anyone stops over I have them
carry out a few gallons to the garage--
The muscle man turned off the water
at the house and brought in the hoses.
My set-up had the water on all the time,
          controlled with on/off settings, very
conveniently right next to the porch
and patio. But now it's freezing time--
all too soon. But still warm in the garage.
All the herbs still growing under lights!
Life's little pleasures, the true treasures!

What about Aqua Globes in your garaged pots? Much easier. I have a set in pots on front steps they've worked for me. Just looking for a link and saw lots of complaints about ordering on line but they do sell them in Target. Just a thought...

Good idea---but there are 30 containers in the garage
with things still growing---jugs and volunteers more
              feasible!!!!! Thanks, pix!!!

Actually, there are some unexpected fragrances,
with the citronella still going strong as well as
chives and lots of hardy roesmary---all brought
to the fromt porch from the patio by my buddy
who did all the heavy lifting and planting, after
he picked out the best colored mums he could find!

      I have many blessings!

      Thank you, Kathy,

Yes, so far we are having an Indian Summer, my plants are so breathtaking, I don't like frost and winter coming at all, I don't mind a chill in the air, but to have everything die makes me sad. You really shared some wonderful pics and the words so beautiful to what eventually happens and what we can only hope for. Excellent. Blessings.

Doesn't take much to make me happy
so nurturing plants in containers is
sonething I still can do! By the weekend
they'll have to be bundled under blankets
each night if they hope to reach Halloween!

It's rather a game of chance! The unexpected
      atill holds the winning hand!

      Thank you, Denise,

    A fine display ...

that I know you must be proud of and at the same time ... worry over, for fear that the good Lord will not tend to your garden the same way that you would. Just try to remember that ... to everything there is a season under heaven. This presentation of haikus and photos is up to your usual high standards and makes for a lovely viewing and a good contest entry. jy

Yes, had to preserve the scene while still colorful,
growing and glowing! The charm of mums---when
frost takes them out, the gradually fading to dried
still has the feeling of Fall.

      Thank you, joy,

      Nice to see you, Rick!

I wanted to capture it before the frost hits big time this weekend!
It seems Fall here is just a blink, leading to the suppositon that
WI has only two seasons, Winter and Summer!!

      Thank you for the observations.

Love;y photos! And they fit the words very well! Yes, it's all so fleeting, and as well as the exposition of beauty, there is this slight sadness within your lines...beauty that is all too fleeting and frail, soon to be encroached upon by frost, by winter. Kind of reminds us of our own lives doesn't it. But I won't go there, it's apparent to everyone -- that parallel.

This was quite special MC. There is beauty and intellectual depth, two of the most important things that I look for in good writing.

Early morn does not thwart your smarts
as you glide through the words
      and pull out pertinent thoughts!

      Yes, the parallel---too apparent!!!!

But the mums are valiantly fighting
      the weather---holding their own yet--
but dismal temps for the weekend.

Thank you for the kind comments,
      meeting your citeria---a high standard!

Wishing you good weather and a safe day.
