clouds have broken

the clouds have broken over me
letting free a bit of moonlight
upon my face and on my hands
bathing in the glow of midnight

i turn a smile out on these lips
feeling the emptyness pass away
a crowded sky engulfed in stars
left staring with no words to say

just absorbing it in my isolation
my back against the patio railing
it's these moments of pure clarity
that keeps my heart from failing
