The Race

win place or show
its always a safe bet
that I will end up ridden hard
and put away all wet

I never come in first
for me there's rarely second best
when compared to all the others
i'm always simply less

I try so hard to be enough
my heart bruised upon my sleeve
in the end when all's said and done
they all just simply leave

now I sit alone and ponder
if I'll ever place or show
as the riders line up all again
the answer's written...no
