What’s that? That noise? From over there!
Oh, it’s just the wind, what a scare.
Oh me! Oh my! What was that?
Oh, thank goodness, just the cat
Run! Run away! There’s a ghost!
Oh wait, it’s a sheet on a lamp post.
It’s raining now, better get home.
Wouldn’t want to end up alone.
Trick or treat? No, no more
We can get candy from the store.
Walk faster please, it’s getting dark.
Oh no, we can’t go through the park!
No! No! Let’s turn back!
Did you hear the loud crack?!
I’m running now, away from here,
Before we both just disappear!
The light just flickers, on and off,
And I hear a hoarse cough.
I spin around, but I’m alone,
And I’m still so far away from home.
I hear laughing from behind the tree,
I turn around and start to flee.
He’s after me, I hear him now,
So through the leaves and brush I plow.
A chainsaw starts, and I cry out,
I run fast then, and start to shout.
“Help me, help me!” I trip and fall
“Don’t worry girl, this won’t hurt at all!”
I put my arms, over my head,
And I feel a sense of growing dread.
All of a sudden, there’s a crash
And it’s all over in a flash
“You’re safe now, we caught the guy,
Now you’re not going to die.”
I go with the man, in uniform,
And in his truck I get warm.
He smiles at me and starts to drive,
“It’s a good thing you did survive,”
He smiles at me, and I smile back,
Then I hear another crack.
Another laugh, another smile,
And I know I’m in denial.
I’m not safe here, I start to cry
And by his chainsaw, I will die.

The ending is a little funny. I wasn't sure if the cop was actually a bad guy at the end or if the speaker was just still worried that the chainsaw killer would get them eventually. But I liked how you worked it up as it went along and the lines about the cat and getting the candy from the store were funny. Thanks for taking the time to enter our contest.
