When a Protector Molests His Oath

Six teens lay in a row.
Their bodies, lifeless
Absent of any soul
Five boys are shot.
The girl is choked.
By hands of strangers
around her throat

Cameras flash.
Onlookers gasp.
Blood seeps down a cheek.
No one speaks.
Dead eyes stare wide.
There's no life left.
As six families wept.

Nothing is said.
Six kids are dead.
And their deaths move none.
As they rot under Nigeria's sun.

Author notes

On June 7-8, 2005, six adolescents were killed by police in the Nigerian town of Apo. Allegedly, the precinct commander propositioned a female of the group. She rejected him. He later plotted bloody revenge by branding her and her companions as armed robbers.

He assembled a hit squad and encountered the teens outside a nightclub. Gunfire broke out leaving four teens dead. Policemen took the survivors to their station tried to ransom them off. When that failed, they executed their victims in a field.

    Horrifying

One wonders about the mindset of those who would do this. Saddam Hussein's sons often did this to females and their families that failed to submit to their advances. It is hard to believe that this could happen but it does, more often than not. Not a very good comment on any society.
