The Truth

He touched my heart
In such a profound way I got a start
See I had been running not just running from him
But from myself
Not sure if I should trust me
But with the beginning of a new day it became a must see
Then I knew

See my name is SOLS and I am the Poetic Truth
Born and raised with a southern hospitality
At a young age got hit with a dose of reality
But within my mentality
I know everything will be right with God

See how can you claim to be faithful
When your acts are distasteful
How can you trust to love somebody
If you’re not comfortable in your own body
I don’t get it
And yea I know the world is flawed
But one person changing a nation
Is how that bud is nawed

See I’m tired of looking around seeing
Hate and bloodshed in close knit families
Grandmother died so forget all tradition
Turning backs on loved ones
Because they refused to listen
Love when you’re near
Forget to call once you move
But that’s okay cause you go with the groove
Mother locked away don’t know what to do
The trials of our youth

It’s sad when
Young girls in their own homes
Go through rape and abuse
Intelligence seen as being obtuse
Only the shape of her thighs
Catches the young man's eyes
Nine months later here comes a surprise
Cause she got caught up with the attention
Making her switch her gears to submission
Transforming into the city slut
Her name spread round with all types of smut
Dude getting popped in the head by gangs
Just cause he was his own person and used his own name
They just didn’t know that he hated the color of his own skin
Because being mixed made him foreign
Forever out of that loop of race
Which is okay cause there’s hate with in cultures anyway
Leaving a young man who was lied to for eighteen years
To fend for himself
And pull that glock off the shelf
Waking up with no memory
But hanging with me later that week
A smile from cheek to cheek

Then my Best friend
Hated herself for her sexuality
Because in Christianity
Being gay is not okay
Well that’s what they told her anyway
That’s not Gods way

See if people would just take the time to open their ears
Then they would hear
What God has in store for them
I tried it and I see the passion in my new friends eyes
As he helped me realize
That the color of our skin unites us
That the power in all culture excites us
And this hate only buries us deeper
Making the climb to success stepper

Wait a minute let me take a breather
But then
Another new friend
Lets me know gossip is destroying her family
And that she’s been stressing unhappily
Hate words being distributed
Because of innocent stares

Does anyone care

Thank God there light at the end of this tunnel
Cause I found a small funnel
Of kindness
Friendship extended from all shades
Like I care about my skin anyway
I’m a toasty brown with a lil coffee I’d say

See when I was down
Many here
At this school has brought me up
Making me say that’s what’s up

So my name is SOLS and I am the Poetic Truth
Who was born and raised with a southern hospitality
And at a young age got hit with a dose of reality
