Coming back to the old house
I feel a sense of emptiness
when I look in your special corner
or find one of the old ‘R’s’
that you wrote on everything
The height scales on the wall
where we measured out your years
I can see circles of toy horses on the floor
the tape’s still there where we made ramps
for racing Hot Wheel cars
The pool is filled with Pound Puppies again
I wish it were sunny and the water crystal clear
we’d play catch and skim inner tubes
like summer never ends
I'd watch you race your mom across the blue
Sometimes you say
we don't love you as much
as we did when you were little
how wrong you are
we've loved you more each day
You're growing up
will go on and do great things
remember all of us at this old place
and the times we had these many perfect years
It’s empty here tonight
I’m feeling blue
I will read Uncle Remus outloud
at bedtime
just for you
