The Riddle Of Denial

All that was serene;
locked inside a repetitious song,
deep within my core

plays confused melodies
of acceptance and failure;

one dream
surrounded by another,
dancing through the echoes;
of reality

loving hands
that promised perfection,
now rest steadfast
on the shoulders of deception

questions frolic
between spaces of consciousness,
seemingly lost;
to the principles of time

beneath every lie,
beneath every trusted soul,
there is a second skin
of concealment;

hiding there;
behind that shadowed gaze,
is an unexpected truth.

Prompt: "Don't Expect" by Jocelyn Ortt-Saeed

Don't expect me!
I've bartered my lovesongs
for a jacket and jeans;
though the shawl's on my head still.

Don't expect me!
I rehearse solo
to counterbalance
the erosion of vision.

Don't expect me!
I am at the still-point --
exploring the space where
the miracle happens.

Don't expect me!
My songs are crazy
trying out voices
that make me expectant.

Don't expect me!
Accept me
as I accept you.
Dream me forever and ever.

    Such a beautiful piece that makes you think

    love the lines:

    "one dream
    surrounded by another,
    dancing through the echoes;
    of reality"

    Beautiful!

    I think you have chose a wonderful title to compliment this poem nephew. You've created a great imagery filled piece from the prompt. Best wishes in the contest dear. I like this a lot.

  • ok this is weird.. not your poem Daddy the timing that's all. wow it's like your inside of my head some how. umm it remnds me of this song that I love.. it's called Behind the Scenes. how true this is.. what is seen and what is hidden are often what's not what one expects. Excellent take on the prompt most definitely.. this is scary how close this has hit to home especially of late.

    Good luck
