Once, I saw the sun and moon
dance their never ending dance.
I watched them both as equals shine.
I watched the both, entranced.
Once, I saw the studded skies
of stars twinkle, glitter, glow.
I saw the the men of ages past
watch me wander there below.
Once, I heard a maiden sigh
and whisper to the night.
I heard her crooning of her love,
of her heart's sweet delight.
Once, I felt a lover's hand
my unclothed flesh caress.
I felt a lover's body throb
as I helped her undress.
Once, I saw the towns of men
and temples they had built.
I saw where they asked Gods
to relieve them of their guilt.
Once, I saw the endless sea
glitt'ring blue and green.
I saw the distant furrows
and the waves that came between.
Once, I heard my mother sing
a lullaby to me.
I heard a loving, kind voice ring
with wishes for me three.
Once, I felt my mother's arms
my tiny self embrace.
I felt the warmth and trust in
the smile on her face.
Once, I saw a thousand sights
and many more beside.
I saw the splendours of the earth,
I saw the whole world wide.
Once, I saw a thousand souls
with joy, and mirth, and love.
I saw men walk unhindered by
those below and those above.
Once, I heard a thousand songs
of love and life and light.
I heard joyous songs of happiness
not laments in the night.
Once, I felt the joy of life
in my heart and in my soul.
I felt an ecstasy that came
without taking a toll.
Once, I was alert, awake,
not trapped inside this void.
Oh, that I could once more, just once!
live the life I once enjoyed.
dance their never ending dance.
I watched them both as equals shine.
I watched the both, entranced.
Once, I saw the studded skies
of stars twinkle, glitter, glow.
I saw the the men of ages past

Author notes
I haven't written any poetry for a long time, so it was good to have a prompt to get me going (title prompt)!
Hopefully the rhymes don't sound too forced and it flows well, but I'm a bit out of practice!
And once again, I have slipped into the "male" persona whilst writing. Never mind!

I really like how you repeat "Once,I" at the beginning of each stanza.
The first two stanzas are absoultly my favorite. thanks for taking the time to enter,
best of luck. -
