a sharpie protest

three years of brilliant naivety
laugh, markers in hand,
your legacy on the eastern wall.
your pastime has pin-pointed
(pen-pointed?)
the very dissonance you tried to achieve.
you have accented and emphasized
these things they feel so strongly against.
and though mum may scold you
as she paints the wall over,
i know it was art to you
and i thought it was marvelous.

Author notes

For this assignment, we had to choose a single image--whatever our mind first landed on--and brainstorm things off of that subject. I happened to have a highlighter right next to me and i broadened it to 'marker'. I listed the four key purposes of a marker (leaving an imprint, emphasis, coloring, and writing) and chose key words or ideas that fell under those categories. That basically gave me a word bank to write this poem from.

what stands out most in this poem?

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!
