the escape route

the woman's gaze
sparks flashes of blue
straight into her retina
while the dome up above
restrains her and her books
from a far-reaching galaxy--
from a star or an ocean,
from chickens or bouncy balls
and, seeing her fate, she smiles
and returns to her book.

Author notes

My professor read a poem out of a book--I don't remember what poem--and had us recall all the images we remembered from the poem. We came up with this word bank...

*retina
astronomer
tell
no one
explod(ing)
*(old) woman
look(ed) up
green spot
*star
feed(ing)
*chickens
glitter(ing)
*galaxy
*dome

...and had to choose six of those words (marked with *) and write a ten-line poem containing them. This is what came of it.

is there a writing style that would suit this poem better?

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!
