Old Habits

She’s done with hiding, sick of waiting
She’s laying her heart out for all to see
Laying everything on the line
Her hope, her dreams, her very sanity.

Her life has been nothing
Webs of deceit and painted masks
Secrets that no one has ever known
Until he looked her in the eyes and asked

Uncertainty is something she’s never known
Because she’s simply always been alone
Never allowed anyone else control
But she’s exhausted and doesn’t think she can hold

Just at the right time he came into her life
They both tried to fight it, but try as they might
In seclusion their love won over, despite them
And fate it seems is determined to fight them

And when her true self was finally revealed
She felt a burden lift she forgot she could feel
But she can’t tell him what she feels now inside
Though she couldn’t tell you why
I guess old habits never really die…
