It can't be real
this wall of brick I've hit this time
It has to be an illusion
like those thousands of other lies
I know now you've told me
I want it gone
so we can go back again to what
we once were
Where I was the only one
you'd ever love
Where my trust in you
was treasured
Against all odds,
Safe from all foes...
Yet, there's this wall in front of me
that won't be breeched,
can't be torn down
even as it falls
brick by brick
bringing horrifying clarity
crushing all the years
since we became us
What did you think

ohhh.... the lines really captures my heart... could feel every word... and the emotion on it...."there will always be tomorrow..."
love and be loved
great work....

Often, betrayal creates the wall and no matter how we try to scale it, trust or the lack thereof makes it nearly impossible. Sure, there are second chances and forgiveness but it is a hard task to forget. Your metaphor is excellent in this poem because in so many relationships the faults of those we love so dearly make us build these walls, and as you state so eloquently, "brick by brick" that wall was built, and so it will take a steady chipping away to tear the fortress down.
Excellent work here poet. I hope mending can be accomplished.
Much Love & Respect ♥
