There once was a little white duck
Who was blind in both his eyes
And the only way he could get around
Was through the others cries
They’d shout go left – go right, mate
They’d shout come here - go there
They’d shout go up – they’d shout go down
Till he could go nowhere
This little white duck was lonely
Cause none would be his friend
Every time he went to move around
They’d start it all again
They’d shout go left - go right, mate
They’d shout come here – go there
They’d shout go up – they’d shout go down
Till he could go nowhere
Then one bright summer morning
As he sat there so sad
He heard a voice that spoke to him
And he didn’t feel so bad
The voice called – “Billy ducky”
My little rubber friend
Please come with me and you will see
All the love you cannot spend
And the other ducks sat watching
They couldn’t believe their eyes
The little boy took the little toy
And silenced all their cries
They’d shout go left – go right, mate
They’d shout come here – go there
They’d shout go up – they’d shout go down
Now they don’t shout anywhere

Thank you. That little plastic duck was similar to one I saw on a cartoon and just had to write about it.

I like the repeated verses it ties everything together nicely.
I'm sure your little white duck is having a great time bobbing about in a foamy bath tub

This is wonderful, and it reminds me of a story about Albino people that I watched on TV last night. Those people, many times, are legally blind, and many people treat them so horribly. Loneliness was a huge part of their story. This poem is a great reminder to always look beyond the physical and view the stunning workings of the inner soul. Very touching write! Blessings, Patty

Very nicely done Lee. Could be taken literally or as a metaphor for life. Love it and the sentiments expressed, either way.

Thanks, Bob. Yes, it could indeed. The cartoon I watched that brought this piece on was actually a story with a moral about a little white duck that sat in a yard tormented by the living ducks. In the end, the little boy showed them that it didn't matter to him that his little duck was just plastic. A sweet cartoon. Sometimes, watching kids cartoons can bring out the child in you and the best in your poetry because they are so simple and down to earth.

It is quite amazing sometimes what triggers the poetic muse. This duck one is a good example. Simple, down to earth and contains a message for anyone who reads. It's lovely Lee. It's always special when the child in all of us is highlighted by a poem like this one..
