Streaks of yellow-gold-red traverse a flat ocean surface
And the coal-black sky becomes inky-blue in colour
As the waves ripple beneath the everchanging sky
And clouds part to allow shafts of the golden sunlight
To bright the dark spaces between the leaves
And the gnarled, finger-like branches of trees
Golden, sunlit days are sometimes overshadowed
By the oncoming clouds from the west; but the sun
Always shines through, sometimes creaking in
To the deepest crevices, the darkest ravines
Brightening a dark which sees so little of the light
And these golden rays of light rush their way on
Across the land, brightening small hamlets and
Vast cities that are planted from skyline to skyline
The sunlight gleams brightly off the polished surfaces
And sides of trains and cars that pass down the motorway
But the brightness does not last
The sun sets -the poison drains- and night slowly returns
And as the night returns, we close our eyes and slip
Into blackness
