Postmortem Art

You refuse to hear me strum the strings
until I have a harp, a halo and wings.
No need for a requiem for a broken dream
since it has already played for me, it seems.

Like Van Gogh, I can't sell something for free;
is this why we both plunged into insanity?
Unlike him, I'll cut everything except my ears
'cause deafness is one of my greatest fears.

[Pre-Chorus]
Are my words unheard until my coffin burns?
The herd flips the bird till my career returns.

[Chorus]
My music is doomed to fail from the start
because it's always seen as postmortem art.

The only gig I'll ever have, is at Necropolis
where I give the lifeless some sweet solace.
Several skeletons surf the screaming crowd
and my voiceless words are yelled out loud.

Sales records rise after I'm buried and dead
and my movement is my time decades ahead.
I'll be like the Kings of Music: Elvis, Biggie, MJ
who make more money while they decay.

[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus]

Teachers may talk about my last writes
that console grandchildren every night.
I bet that no one will ever hear this song
so there is no point in making it so long.

[Pre-Chorus]
[Chorus 2x]

Please tell me what you think

This is really good! I have never been able to compose a good song so I'm very impressed. The content and the message is original and interesting and I can almost feel the beat. I wish I could hear the tune that it goes to.

    Love,

  • Powerfull. I liked the pre chorus/ chorus, great ryhme. It really is funny how when pop artists die, more money is made over the course of a few weeks in their name then when they are living. Might as well build up momentum, then fake your death hahahaha. good write man.
