Chocolate Plateau

THE HEIGHTS OF
DARK CHOCOLATE

If the name "Ghirardelli"
does not roll off your tongue,
if it does not cause you to salivate
or to create rhyming lines to be sung,

then you may not feel your heart pounding
as you see "60% cacao" on the brown and gold
of the sparkling package, or, heart be still, "72%,"
loaded with antioxidants, to keep you young, not old,

to supply you with endorphins, enhance your pleasures,
melt on your tongue, or slip in heated fudge down perilous
slippery mountain of imaginative dream, melting in hot swirling
sea of chocolate obsession, a shared love-topic to fervently discuss.

If this delightful experience is something of which you do not know
may you still anticipate reaching  the glorious dark chocolate plateau.

    Dear M-C,

    Though many a sip and bite of chocolate has reached my belly,
    I must confess I never heard before of Ghirardelli
    and, when I read your lines, I feel quite suddenly deprived
    as though, for seventy-seven years, I've never been alive.

    This may account for all the many failures that were mine
    when, every year, i tried to court another Valentine
    by sending flowers and chocolates. I did not understand
    that women were particular about the name and brand.

    I hate to think that all those liqueur fillings went untasted,
    the contents of those double-decker boxes spurned and wasted,
    that, being of inferior brand, they lay upon some shelf
    unopened, when I might as well have eaten them myself !

    ~~~
    Ah well, as my late friend Del Warren Livingston used to say:
    "Any day when we learn something is a good day."
    Applause and thanks for your shapely poem and artwork (which, now the contest has been de-anonymised, I can view) and best of luck in the voting.
    Much love, hugs and germ-free XXX's.... Hugh (R.)
      Oh what a thoughtful V alentiner!!
      I am sure all gifts were appreciated
      for what is in the heart of the
      presenter is what a thoughtful
      woman appreciates!
      The story of the company is quite fascinating,
      with an Italian named Domingo Ghirardelli,
      by way of South America coming to California
      in search of gold at Sutter's Mill, but starting
      instead one of the first country stores, in a tent.
      Still made in SanFransisco today, the delightful
      products bearing his name. His business had
      progressed to chocolate, and even the Frisco
      fires did not defeat him, as he started over again!
      For the history buff in you there are links above!
      Hopefully you will not be deprived as you find
      some other tempting morsel to suit your desires.
      I enjoyed your poetic reply, and especially
      the steriized XXX's!!
    "Ghirardelli" It's not a name I'm familiar with but you make it sound deliciously decadent
    We have a specialist chocolate shop in the local shopping centre that I have always given an extremely wide berth ( not because of the delicious goods on display but the prices)
    Perhaps I'll allow myself a closer look just to view the chocolates you mentioned purely to see what the thinking and imaginative women like to enjoy you understand..
      The name is from Domingo Ghirardelli who founded the company in 1852
      after coming from South America to Frisco because of the Gold Rush.
      All was lost, but rebuilt again after the SanFancisco fire. And it continues
      to thrive in San Francisco. although now owned by a Swiss Hooldings company.
      It's the best, easily available bittersweet chocolate form my location.
      Ah, looking, no calories, no cost! Or maybe just a little bag!!!
                      My gardening daughter dug up some of her
                      chocolate mint, planted it in a pot and brought
                      it along with the seven other members of the family
                      when they visited this summer. She thought it should be planted in the ground, but container gardener Mom wants to see how long it will still give cuttings
                      when re-oriented now under lights in the garage.
                      You enlighten me with the cocoa mulch! As well
                        Any mint variety needs boundaries. You were wise to pot it.
                        Next Spring look for cocoa mulch...slightly upscale garden centers should have it and you can spread it in your large pots.
                        All my rose bushes have significance either by name or from whence they came. Youngest is a true chocoholic...Hot Cocoa was for her.
    Do they really say that? Wow, some folk will do anything to sell chocolate, lol
    You've read the old Moxie ads: It cured dyspepsia, loss of hair, neuralgia, loss of manhood, etc. What it really did and still does, is make us fat, the same with Ghirardelli, lol
