Hershel W. Stewart, age 79, of Beverly, WV, and formerly of Eaton and Dayton, OH, entered into eternal rest Saturday, September 26, 2009 at his residence following an extended illness. He was born Wednesday February 12, 1930 in Wyoming County, WV, a son of the late McKinley and Elsie Mae Stewart. For several years he served with the Ohio National Guard in Dayton, OH. In 1969, the family moved from the Northridge area of Dayton to Eaton. In 1978, Mr. Stewart enrolled in Baptist Bible College of Springfield, MO, graduating in 1982. Ten years later, he and his wife returned home to West Virginia where he served as Pastor at Bemis Community Church in Bemis, WV. In later years he was a member of the Tygart Valley Baptist Church in Beverly, WV. Hershel loved woodworking and vegetable gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son Joseph McKinley Stewart: one great grandchild: and sisters Lola Cook and Lecta Roberts.

Survived by his wife of fifty-nine years Frankie (Roberts) Stewart of Beverly, WV, whom he married on Sunday August 13, 1950 in Baileysville, WV: son Ricky L. Stewart & wife Annette of Brookville, OH: daughters Connie Elaine Landreth of Columbia, MO; Sherry Lynn Sheppard of San Antonio, TX; Rhonda Gwenn Nations of Adkins, TX; and Laura Dawn Hanson and husband Thomas of Aurora, IL: 16 grandchildren,18 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren: brother William Hersie Stewart of Pineville, WV: sisters Lois Cook of Roanoke, VA; Lena Roberts of Pineville, WV; Norma Collins and Jerry Norrod both of Dayton, OH; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at Tygart Valley Baptist Church, Beverly, WV. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM at the Church. Pastor Jack Howell officiating. On Friday, October 2, 2009, visitation will be held from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria, OH followed by funeral services at 1:00 PM. Pastor Fred Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Preble Memory Gardens Cemetery, West Alexandria, OH.
