The Platypus Poem

Platypus, O platypus,
all duck-billed with webbed feet,
thou art the strangest animal
that I did ever meet!

Layest thou thine eggs, and yet,
thou shouldst a mammal be?
O, what drunk God did think it fun
to form one such as thee?

And what on earth, O platypus,
is such a name as thine?
Thy nomenclature is quite strange
-- compared, at least, to mine!

But ne'ertheless, dear platypus,
we love thee as our own;
thou art the most intriguing beast
the world has ever known.

-D.B.

Author notes

Hello all-- no, I haven't died, I merely haven't been on in awhile. Anyway, this is just a silly little ditty I doodled together in math class today, figured I'd post it to prove that I haven't dropped off the earth (yet).

This is great! Amusing and educational too. I used to see them in the river every day - I miss Australia!

And you thought that God didn't have a sense of humor, huh?

    Great light verse!
