The sun sinks slowly,
One red wrinkle at a time
Until pre-tomorrow purple winks,
Sinks, and subcombs to the night.
The rattles slowly fill you
Vibrating from toes to brain
Your fingers grasp precariously
To the clammy rungs
Shifting weight to avoid the fall.
Brain’s pumping blood, vicariously
Small worlds - collide.
There’s no going back
In the darkness of the tunnels
Enlightenment gratified the walls

This sounds like my first time on the subway. =) I was standing and holding onto a pole above me, but I wasn't expecting the sudden lurch backwards. I almost toppled over completely. It wasn't fun at the time, but it's pretty funny looking back on it. =P I take it you had a similar experience? =)

Mmm I really like riding the subway, it peaceful in a psychotic sort of way. And it was inspired by Simon & Garfunkel
