We carry our eggs wherever we go
Nine long months of holding this parasite
that drains from our life with each cellular division
When the egg cracks, they crawl out of us
Slimy, hairless, nearly blind to the world
little monsters that become us
Yet our trials do not end at the hatching of the egg
unlike the spineless ones who birth and flee
leaving thousands of little progeny to live or die
for we have but one
the source of so much energy, care, and devotion
cannot be left to live or die so readily
And unique to our class
we lie down upon the altar, naked and alone
and bleed into their mouths
so they may grow strong off our lives
Author notes
This was originally a prompt for a contest that was removed: it was a picture contest involving a naked woman with three babies crawling up to her like puppies may crawl up to their mother in search of milk. Thus my inspiration.

Pretty intense imagery here. It shows how tough the ways of nature are, and even though we are a part of it. Your words seem to show that we are nonetheless human as well; or i guess simply mammalian. I like this quite a bit, well done!
