Love’s Literacy

I was literate in the steps of grief
Reckoning as I had
Like an un-timely thief
Only God, she and I knew…
I found relief—

Brief spotty patches sang my song
My resting pulse pleased me
Slow inhalations drew my breath along
The dam broke at my eyelids
I felt harmonious probes from love’s prong

Light entered from every gate
Rising in stages
This stuttering soul perused his plate
Things come when they come
It doesn’t mean they’re late—

Fate has its own calling card
Mommy taught me:
‘Take care of your own backyard’
Patience set me free
An escapee from Life’s leotard …

Author notes

Well, aside from the obvious fact that this is more 'mushy' than I ordinarily write (if this can be called "mushy"), this is dedicated to my wife. She deserves every ounce of affection so easily. She appreciates my writing more than I do (hahaha).

A lovely write to that special someone who makes your world shine bright. Love is a wonderful thing and to be blessed with it, to know it's depth is often beyond words or expression...but your words here are a testament to your talent as a writer....as a poet. Beautiful write...Alby

Hi alby. It's very good to see you again. Hope things are well with you. As for the feedback here: top-shelf. You know, a lot of people could say what you just said; however, it is due to your depth and golden pen and romantic heart that I feel so honored by your thoughts on this piece. I cannot thank you enough for reading and leaving this great compliment behind.

And when the damn bursts it is always for a reason now ain't it, the love you poured out is not hidden nor cryptic and I am certain the lady of your life will easily decrypt it.

Excellent piece here and mighty fine first read for me.

Thank you very much awannabepoet (too...). I appreciate what you had to say so much. Yes, my wife loves it very much and as you say, recognized it as one does their own children. I have to say that this is a touching comment for sure. I will be pleased to return the kindness.

    AAAWWW....

Now how wonderfully sweet!!!!!!!! and yes dang it i'll be mushy for ya! THIS IS INTENSELY BEAUTIFUL.. YOU MASTER OF PLAYING AROUND WITH WORDS, and trying as hard as you could, it was impossible to avoid EXPOSING THAT TENDER HEART AND LOVING HEART, that we both know MOMMY helped to cultivate, and now my sweet sis in law is effortlessly causing to come to blossom.. I WON'T BE A BIT SURPRISED, IF SHE 'ILLICITS' more of these, 'non mushy' writings from you in the future.. Mr.no mush man! l.o.l. LOVED THIS KID!!!!!!!!!!

You know what Bird-Boy, just because you're being a smart-alec here, I should delete your comment (lol)....jk. Hey, thanks a million tons for all of your heapings of compliments here. Of course you know good and well that Mommy was fast at work at heart-cultivation. And I still (almost) don't do 'mushy' lol. But thanks for our feedback nevertheless.

Hey Mallig. Wow, it's good to catch you on again. I did one of those 'disappearing acts' myself for about 3 months - very hard to catch back up. lol. Thank you for still coming and leaving all of your touching comments. Glad you still afford me your interest (lol).

There is gold, & a multitude of rubies. But the lips of knowledge are more precious then any jewel. And so shall it be . Well done poet.

Hey there Bob. It's good to see you again. Sorry for responding so late. I'm not on as much these days and even now, I'm stuck playing 'catch-up' commenting. Thank you very much continuing to read from me and saying what you have said about this write.

I don't find it mushy, a little cryptic but then so it should be as a dedication you both understand intimately. I enjoyed the read, though the last line was a unexpected?!

Thank you very much for your read and comments. Yes, I agree that it's meanings are a bit hiddened for the reasons that you mention. I am pleased to see that you enjoyed it nevertheless. And that last line has more to do with how constricting life can be. For some reason, 'leotards' came to mind for me...haha. Guess I'm a bit strange in that way? lol...Thanks again frownsnfreckles.
