The curse of Immortality

To be Immortal

While I cannot say I myself am immortal

I can try to best describe my belief.

In the beginning of your new life,

you feel great, and feel there is no strife

You could take on the world and more

Walking, running, you feel you could soar

Then the cracks will show after the first few decades

You begin to realize what has really happened

You discard your possessions, they hold no value

money means nothing, it has no hold over you
To keep yourself occupied, You live off the lands

Not eating, or sleeping, working with just your hands

Then, the insanity begins to gnaw at your mind, after a few centuries

You want something to entertain your dull life, a challenge, if you will

You kill a man to see what comes of it

there is no challenge, and so it becomes a raging fit

You begin the slaughter, killing many

Humans are no challenge, not any

Finally, you realize that after tens of thousands of years

you don't want to live anymore, you wish to sleep the eternal sleep

You take the gun to your head, cocking the gun, arming the bullet

You shoot, pain, but you do not die, a failed game of Russian roulette

You let your body heal itself, and endure the insanity

just a little longer, to help humanity

Hundreds of year later, you haven't aged. Humans shun you now

you are not one of them. you decide try to Sleep again

This time you use a rougher means, a grenade

"Please work this time" you pray

It explodes, as does the pain, but you are not dead

You are alive, your heart fills with dread.

"Is there no way to end this curse?" you scream to the skies

But the gods you resemble are silent, and yet you continue screaming

You go through different stages, begging, pleading

"Please end this curse" Unanswered, your heart is still beating

Your threaten and yell, in anguish, anger and hate

"I shall have your head!" you rage, though that's not your fate

You live your insanity within a forest, becoming so feral,

you begin losing all traces of humanity

Your ear's point like the animals with which you live

You need no sustenance, you hunt only to give

You become inseparable to the earth you once hated

But you are human no more, a new creature is created.
