out for a fun night
out for a fun night.
laughing blinds the eyes,
and rocks dig through the stylishly uncomfortable shoes.
(out for a fun night).
(we drove down her driveway, laughing at the moonlight watching us through the trees. Twists, turns and... an obstruction of some kind)
Nothing can be what I think that is.
Nothing bad can exist.
Nothing like this can actually be happening.
The car in front of you is the
leader, and in there is the Birthday Girl
(nothing ever happens to the Birthday Girl)
So why do I see the bottom of her car?
(the horrible second of your life, feelings of forever, and jolted disbelief of anything and everything you see. It can not be true. It can not be right. It can not have happened.
It's just not possible)
yells, shouts and panic for a moment,
Are you all right?
are you all right?
Please god don't be dead.
Nodding head contradicting with shaken bodies and tears that pool in fits of
apologies,
explanations
exclamations
and fear.
(can a deer in the headlights be the cause of such a horrible second?)
Author notes
I dont know if you would say this has anything to do with how the world is organized, but it did open my eyes to the fact that bad things DO happen, to everyone.
I was at a friends house for a birthday party and we were driving to the store to get energy drinks (around eleven at night) and we were taking three cars, I was in the second and the bday girl was in the first. We were a little behind them, so we didnt see it happen, but we came up and saw the bottom of the car and its just... that horrible moment where A) that cant be what you think it is,
holy shit it is and C) i just know they're all dead.
They all turned out to be allright. its was a jeep so it was sturdy. A deer dove out in front of them and the driver turned and hit the breaks and hit a pot hole at just the wrong moment and it flipped the car. I've never been in a car crash or associated with one in any way, so it was scary. even if nothing bad really happened (no injuries, they didnt hit the deer) it was still scary and it still shook me up.
but boy am I glad I wasnt in that car.

Pow! Liked this one a lot. Just what I was looking for and I understood what went on in the poem without the notes. I thought the style was modern and interesting. Good work . See the movie No Country For Old Men if you get a chance. It is an extended rumination on the intrusion of chance in our lives.
