Project Memory

A girl hovers in line for her coffee, snaring at her watch. She lets out a disgruntled sigh and looks around. People seem to be staring back at her. She gives them a quick glance, and then, once noticing their visage as a whole, looking back, she, embarrassed, acquiesces to standing back in the line, quietly. She starts to reach for something in her sack, and moves a little over to her right, getting in the way of a slightly older looking man, not quite paying attention to where he walks, and he bumps into her.. Her sack falls, schedules, papers and all, and his coffee spills on top of her clothes and belongings. “Great!” She paints the room with her sardonic and angry glow, and shocks the man.

Immediately he laughs, “hey, you’re holding everyone up!”

She whips her glare at him, beaming with frustration. “What? You bumped into me, you ignorant..”

He puts his finger over her mouth, saying, “calm down Pippi, no one’s gonna steal your monkey.”

“What?”

He smiles as he stares into her aqua-silver pools of light, and the wind from the next customer slamming the door open shakes her chestnut hair, wet and curly from the rain, in front of her sad face. She reminded him of his mother.
