Seven Days

Sunday's slap becomes the Monday punch
that tells Tuesday to kick its way into
Wednesday's reason for hands around a throat
squeezing and choking until Thursday gasps fearfully
through Friday's fists of fury which beat a hasty retreat
from Saturday's closed casket funeral service.

Author notes

This piece came to my mind just as it is written.
Show mercy? Why? Abusers, batterers and murderers
show none to their victims. Am I angry? You're gotdamned
right I'm angry. Too many women go prematurely into closed caskets
for me not to be MAD AS HELL!!!

yes, Im with you here love. I just cannot listen to the news without another story about life's tragedies leaking through. Little girls found in garbage piles, exhusbands sneaking past the armed guards and stabbing their ex and then themselves. and so on and so forth. What disturbes me most of all are the parents killing their own children.
it just kills me a little each time I hear a new story.
thanks for taking the time to enter, and I wish you the best.
    love,

Gee..this is so 'in-your-face'...just RAW. And it should be too. The subject is a plague across the nation: no vaccination for this one huh? Wow, I think it came out like it did because it needed to. But what do I know? Excellent impact piece.

your use of the days of the week really helped bring home this message.
i completely agree with what you've said in your AN. don't let anger get the better of you though.

the first line was amazing and opened the poem really well.

i enjoyed reading this immensely, i hope it has helped vent your anger on this topic.

    chin up,

You went for the jugular with truth here lady! Too many women die at the hands of men that claimed they loved them. I had a best friend who was in an abusive relationship. This man did everything one can imagine to destroy her life and she kept going back for more. One day she made herself realize that it was either him or her and left him, never to look back. I had prayed for that day and it came just in time. Two months later he sent his new woman to the hospital damn near dead. Thank you for writing this poem. It needs to be pent atop every housetop.

    Much Love ♥

Well, I am always amazed by what you say and how you say it so wonderfully... and this one meets my expectations. A real life drama that could make the front page of any town's newspaper.

Yeah, I've had weeks like that...

I liked the line about "Friday's fists of fury" beating "a hasty retreat from "Saturday's closed casket funeral service". Nicely done.
