These widow's weeds she weaves around
her shoulders rounded now in grief
spell no relief from grief whose sound
is boundless, sounder than belief.
She wraps herself into a knot.
Believing not, she walks bereft.
Bereaved in widow's weeds, she's caught
and strangled by its heavy weft-
a weft of water hyacinth
culled from the net at water's edge.
An edge of muck and sentiment
she's sentenced to, his corpse to dredge,
where dredging deeply in her pain-
pain's silted in abyssal plain.
Author notes
This is a "wreath," which is inspired by George Herbert's poem of that name. He was a Metaphysical poet known for his use of extended metaphor.

Quite a piece of work! Baroque in it's complexity. "Are you going to tell me you wrote this all in one go?" he asked suspiciously
