Rubato

Yesterday I wondered
what it would be like to be
the top of a tree,
so close to the sky
and far away from the ground,
to feel the sun's life that much stronger
and at night,
stars at your fingertips.
Sometimes I fall in love
with one part of a song
and that is enough
for the day, just to listen.
Today I forgot, as I usually do,
about mortality;
I'm laying in bed and I put my hand on my chest
and feel my heart beat
and I feel like next time I wonder
what this blue planet speeding through space
with all of us here along for the ride
are all about,
I will stop
feel my pulse
and remember.
And this is my faith.
because I don't know if there is a god
or heaven or hell
or anything after we finish here,
but I do know there will always be love
because it is what we are and what we are made from,
and every time I stop for a second and
focus on the air going into my lungs and how they expand and how my heart beats and it's strong and beautiful and whole and alive
I know I am a part of something
so I will put all the love into this world that I can.
It's my way of saying thank you.
