We draw meaning
from what was written or said
though the writer that spoke
is now dead.
He cannot truly know
what he meant
from words he wrote
to things he spoke.
The meaning is lost.
Like much of what was written
we search the pages
for some meaning, hidden...
The philosophy
we read of
in bound parchment
Goes deeper
than what anyone
can infer
The philosopher is dead
and the meaning lies in the past
in his grave, in his head.
So far we cannot even begin to grasp
the reasons
in which he wrote,
in which he said...
