Life Lesson

Missing image

A man should learn with age,
walking with his eyes and ears open to the world.
Notice how things move and change.
The butterfly does not draw straight lines between blossoms.
It explores the world as men should.
Sometimes up is down and left is right.
At some point in your travels you may find
that sideways is straight ahead.
Seek and follow your own path.

Thank you very much for your kind comment, for hosting and for the Bronze. All greatly appreciated.

  • I really like the imagery here, along with the message. I think it would do anybody a lot of good to internalize it!

This is truth. My path won't be yours, and each will slant at a new angle. This is a short piece of hard truth coated in poetic flavor to help make it go down. Very well written of course in meter and form. Nice!

I love when you write poetry that sends a message because you always paint such a great picture which makes it so difficult for one to miss the point you are trying to make. This write is no exception to the rule. Excellent write and message well received, best of luck in the contest dear.

Very profound for you in your poetry but a lovely poem to set me thinking on this beautiful autumn morning here.
I am now going to walk my dogs down the river towpath but forgive me if I walk a straight line 'cos if I don't I'll fall in the river...hahaha!!!
Seriously I know just what your poem is saying and I wish you all the luck with it as its quite lovely.

Like your Zen Moment. The shortest distance between two points may be a straight line but you miss so much when you don't take time to smell the flowers on the way.

Thanks very much and I do agree. A little deviation from our set path to enjoy the view can certainly add to our perspective.

I saw a bumper sticker once that brought forth a chuckle: "That was Zen - this is Tao". A worthy poem with much to contemplate within its brevity, much like life. Good luck in the contest.
