No Man's Land

Verse #1

An ocean away, but I hold you still,
A young man’s decay calls me to the frontlines
Home is fading further again, but I must serve my deeds,
And the thought that this could be our last goodbye, it brings me to my knees

I’ll find my way, with this picture of your face,
My only soul shelter, this compass in a frame
So many have gone before me, I pray to God they’ve gone without me,
Because to leave before my time, would be to leave without goodbye

Chorus

Now the tears come a floodin’, and my hope is a gunnin’,
To make it home to her
And I know my hands are bloody, every man was somebody,
But from where I’ve gone, I will return

Verse #2

Death all around me, back and forth, the struggle carries on
My mind is heavy, but my heart is beating strong
Men are falling all around, ‘cept the middle where I stand,
And every hope and dream, joins them in the sand

Oh, I see it coming in,
Closer, to relieve me of my sins
I tell you, if I leave you must be strong,
I feel you; but my heart must walk along

Chorus

Now the tears come a floodin’, and my hope is a gunnin’,
To make it home to her
And I know my hands are bloody, every man was somebody,

Bridge

And I, I pray for the best, but fear the worst I must confess,
And I, I feel it’s the time, but in my absence, please I beg you, do not cry

Chorus

Now the tears come a floodin’, ’cause my hope is a runnin’,
I’ve made it home to her
Now I’m carried by my brothers, but I’ve gone to join the others,
From where I’ve gone, there’s no return

(I’ll be watching over you, I’ll hold you still)

Wow. I really liked this piece. I love how you have made it into a song,, and my favourite part was:
"Now I’m carried by my brothers, but I’ve gone to join the others,
From where I’ve gone, there’s no return"
It has a lot of emotion, and you must have worked really hard on this - it shows!
    Thanks for the entry!

    Good luck, Graciee

This one is really good, too. I know a few veterans, and so I can loosely relate because of the stories they've told me in the past. You did a great job of showing emotion in this one. My favorite lines were "Because to leave before my time, would be to leave without goodbye" AND "every man was somebody." Really nice job.
