The Mosquito

Missing image
The helipad is ready and I’m taking off in flight
There’s something very precious on the wind
I’m souping up my motor for this long and weary night
While waiting for the dark to come on in

It’s okay in the daytime but it sure is great at night
When things just seem to fall all into place
There are motors really roaring – the time is drawing near
And everyone is moving round in haste

I look up to the sky and I see the night come down
I know this is the moment to deploy
I’m seeking out my prey with ever searching eyes
As the call goes up destroy! destroy! destroy!

I can sense it on the breeze and it really is a joy
I can see the burning fires that draw me down
But the meal is getting jumping and is truly flipping out
Really makes it hard to judge where I am bound

There’s a shout then there’s a cry and a mighty hardy - whack!
There goes old brother Lenny - bless his soul
While young Jerry’s had his fill and is looking mighty fat
But I’m still in flight and seeking out my goal

Now I can really wait no longer and I dive without a care
Hit my mark and feel the oozing – oh so fine
Forgetting bout the danger as I drink my hearty meal
Do not see the menace coming up behind

I saw Lenny just today - as we stood beside the rest
We were watching as they bid us both, farewell
Splattered in our early prime just for making meals of them
They had squashed us and had sent us both to hell

    Good story here

Oh my goodness and in Texas there a way that you first have to use a ball pen hammer just to get those devils atention before you can rid yourself of one . They are so huge if they ganged up on a person could jerk and arm off hahahha .For Texas skeeters wear spurs and dig themselves in before they take a drink

LOL!!!! that is funny. Here, they are so big, they don't bite you straight away. First they pick you up and carry you off into the woodlands. Thanks for stopping by and reading. Much appreciated.

    Proposed edits:
line 4 - darkness instead of dark
lne 5 - "it is" instead of "is"
line 6 - when everything just seems to fall in place
stanza 4 - change joy to blast, then two lines down, change "truly flipping out" to "losing patience fast"

Sorry, just a few things that stuck out to me as I read it a second time, take what sounds good.

I really enjoyed reading it, brought a big ol grin to my face, like this .

I love these nature writes that take the perspective of an otherwise insignificant creature. Brings up those classic stoner thoughts: Man, what if we're just mosquitoes living on the skin of a giant? Sucking it's blood dry? Actually that is kind true, insert environmental jargin here.

Wow I really think too much. Anyway, great write, keep it up!

Thanks, mate. I am not looking forward to the summer. Being outdoors working and a lot in peoples backyards, we come across a lot of mozzies hiding in the corners where we often work. Yuk.

No chance of any mozzies here at the moment, it's freezing! I am glad you liked this one as it was one I did in response to beret55 comment on one of his poems. Thought it a great challenge.

Poor little mozzies. It will soon be time for them to be busy buzzing around. Not today though, winter is back with a vengeance. Well done again, the work of an artist.
