Once Again Triumphant

in the heart of the hubbub I stand,
listening to the bustle surrounding me
a man is whispering into my ear,
hoping his logic will give him my hand

my gaze wanders, giving him no time
anger sparks in his eyes while he speaks
willing me to attend his words of wisdom
as if emotions of the heart were a crime

my mind flicks back to the covers,
imagination fluttering at possibility
ages of feelings past enter my body
giving rise to desires undiscovered

my heart battles with my psyche,
urging me to take action upon thought
and caring little for consequence
it fights in the name of avidity

yet in the end the heart will lose,
shoved to the back for a later day
the brain celebrates its triumph
for it will always be the one i choose
