You see there are things we lost in the fire
On that cold December night
I remember the screams and smoke
I remember the burning light
There where things we lost in the fire
Things that couldn't be replaced
The heat that overtook senses
The night that caused my heart to break
The fire it started so quickly never really had a time to react
A hair straightener left on too long, as I followed you to argue back.
You told me you had enough and wanted out of it all
I screamed at you with tear is my eyes, couldn’t' believe you let me fall
You said you wanted to start packing, and didn’t care what I had to say
I followed you into the room, couldn’t believe you'd treat me this way
The first thing that we noticed, was the smell of smoke around
The first thing we saw in the room, was the flames coming from the ground
The first thing that you did, was take me by the hand
I tried to go back but you started screaming, words I couldn't understand
The fire it was all around us, and it's foolish, well now I know
You told me to leave, but I was so stupid and just refused to go.
You roughly pulled me close, and whispered-I almost didn't hear
"Baby I don't care if we lose it all as long as you are here"
We safely got to the outside, and the fire-fighters soon arrived
I looked at the flames and wanted to cry, because all my life was inside
Then you took me in your arms and tenderly kissed my forehead
You said you where sorry and never meant those words that you said
I looked at you and realised, its funny how things turned out
Just a moment ago, we were arguing and, you where ready to walk out.
You see there are things we lost in the fire
On that cold December night
I remember the screams and smoke
I remember the burning light
So many things we can never get back
But now I finally see.
Even though we lost so much in the fire
What was found was your love for me.
