Lie To Me

Chest-ripping and soul-crushing, your words crash through my heart.
Their candour brings me to my knees, and I slowly fall apart.
The strings of hope and imagination that once were holding me together
have been cut clean by your carelessness and thoughtlessness forever.

While you run away, you soar away, you simply push into the sky,
would it have killed you just to bear the weight of a single lightweight lie?
One that's spoken everyday, between people everywhere:
"I love your eyes, I love your voice, I love the colour of your hair".

To be the one, the only one, I know it must be tough;
but to fill the space I made for you would have been more than enough.
I did not expect you with eyes so bright, to speak so honestly,
that the love I freely gave to you was not returned to me.

Why couldn't you do what was right, when everything was wrong?
Lie to me, and reassure me that it's with you that I belong.
We've so much going for us, we've health and fitness, we have youth,
don't you think that just this once I deserved more than the truth?

Author notes

Inspired by the US show that is taking the UK by storm, 'Lie To Me', starring Tim Roth , but also by a UK artist's song: 'Easier to Lie' by Aqualung (Matt Hales) . I don't know how famous he is anywhere else, though. Apparently he has album releases in the US, but you can find his stuff on the youtube

    Very smooth read

I really liked this piece. I love it when I can read a rhyming poem and get into a rhythm with the stanzas. I've not seen the show that inspired you but even so I can relate to and understand what you wrote. Very good job!
