Southern Style

Strummin' my six string
on my front porch swing
my boots tappin’ to the sounds

Gentle breezes blowin’
Spanish moss flowin’
my huntin’ dog lazin’ around

Southern fried chicken
its finger lickin’
the smell of supper in the air

Cornbread and black-eyed peas
collard greens and iced tea
a cowboy’s needs is almost there

Homemade peach cobbler and apple pie
makes ya mouth water, ya gonna sigh
a kiss from my gal makes me swoon

Fiery skies in the sunset
skeeters aren’t bitin’ yet
a lovely southern afternoon

Y’all please come on over
there’s plenty food for ya
southern hospitality is here

Just another southern day
we’re watchin’ our youngins play
kickin’ back with no worries or fears

At night, we go back outside
just my sweet gal by my side
a southern man’s favorite dream

Running fingers through her hair
I kiss her; stars are everywhere
its southern love under moonbeams

Ya’ll come on back now, ya hear

Author notes

Well I tied to write a southern poem
with a old time southern tune as well

I'm sure as hell no song writer
And you damn well never want to hear me sing
Dogs howling, cats running up trees,
people calling the cops for noise polution
it's very, very ugly
