Labyrinth

I walk the path of enlightenment
Guided by the hand of God

Sometimes treading carefully
Sometimes plunging headlong
Sometimes spiraling out of control
Sometimes lost in the maze

But always on the
Path
Taking me to the
Center of my Being

I walk as a Pilgrim
Through a spiritual Labyrinth
Where I follow in the footsteps
Of those who have gone before me

Steadfastly I continue
Even if I sometimes falter
Even if obstacles are thrust upon me
For the journey is the destination
The journey is a prayer

Faith is my Guide
Hope is my Companion
Love is my Destination

I walk the path of life
Guided by the hand of God

Author notes

I just read a book that delved into the history of the Labyrinth, specifically the famous labyrinth of Chartres Cathedral in France. There people from all over the world walk the metaphoric journey to its center meditating and praying. It is not a maze, which can make you lost, but rather one path to the Center. I was so intrigued by the symbolism of it, I was inspired to write my first poem in a long time, one that symbolizes my present sometimes difficult journey through life.

Please tell me what you think

    A-maze-ing!

    Hey Suzy,

I like the metaphor of finding the center of a maze. That's so much like the journey to happiness or spiritual wholeness. The path is never straight or predictable. We probably wouldn't reach the goal if it was too easy anyway. I also like the idea in your poem of the journey being the prayer, and of God giving you little nudges in the right direction along the way. Very cool poem idea and excellently written.
