The Non - jew

"Are you Jewish?" a new acquittance ask.
"Yes," I laugh back, eager for the conversation to move on.
"I could tell," she sounds so pleased.
"Everyone always can."

The conversation resumes, but I'm stuck on the exchange that has just occurred. I don't know why I do this, why I allow strangers to feel so pleased with themselves. This happens often and I have yet to understand why.

The thing is,
I'm not Jewish.

Author notes

This particular incident has never happened to me or anyone I know, but is was thinking about what an interesting scenario it would be.

Do you ever do things like this?

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

People think I`m a Jew all the time. In their defense, I do look mighty Jewy.

Very good. I can see this conversation happening to someone, somewhere. If not to a Jewish person than to someone else.
