Captive Audience

Missing image

She woke up this morning determined to play
to all of her toys and the cat,
she knew they would listen and not run away
as she put on her black velvet hat.

The sun had just risen, so she closed the door
her parents were both fast asleep,
she lined up her toys on a rug on the floor
and said to them all, “not a peep”.

She sat in her nightie, resplendent and proud;
the 'opening night' had begun,
and nothing was heard, not a voice from the crowd
they listened in awe, everyone.

So lost in her music she’d not heard the sound
the door opened silent and wide,
it wasn’t until she had stopped and turned round
saw Mum and Dad beaming with pride.

At last the recital was over and done,
the cat had run out of the door,
and their little angel backlit by the sun
sat smiling  … for she knew the score!

You missed absolutely nothing in that poem and added real life to it. Wonderful again. Even the cat got a mention...That must be a prize winner...Dan

Many thanks for your lovely comment. I have two daughters and remember scenes like this well and the artist captured that feeling well.

    Captivating ...

A dream of a scene that many parents will have experienced, or at least should do. Those little moments are magical and rarely forgotten through the years. A lovely tale

    Wow

A true talent of work. And the cat has no taste for music. Really really lovely! -c

Many thanks Chuck for your comment ... had the little girl been playing the violin I don't think the cat would have stayed for the recital

Honestly, the flow, the sweetness, the way it overflows in feeling and sound, one must believe you were there when she performed. I find it hard to believe the picture came before the poem, and was not painted to illustrate it.

Many thanks for your lovely comment ... I was there, but it was a good few years ago, I used to play to my toys and I remember watching my daughters play to theirs, so writing this was easy
