To the staff of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital:
With your devotion, your caring and love, you've worked well
to help save children with cancer and many other catastrophic
diseases. You've done well at living up to Danny Thomas's message:
"No child shall die in the dawn of life."
Though some children have not made it to remission and some have died,
your strength and determination has not faded.
Though some families do not walk out of the hospital feeling the mission's
been successful, you have not given up.
You've tried your hardest to save as many children as possible and,
to this day, the light of hope is still strong.
In 1962 when St. Jude was first established Danny had a dream of
freeing every child who carried the disease of cancer.
He had a hope that there could be a place where parents could
bring their children for treatment without robbing themselves
of their finances.
And that's so true. To this day the fact St. Jude pays for everything
and no family is turned away because of poor finances is a big help
to this hospital's courageous image. The fact that so many cures
and vaccination are being created there makes the light of hope
brighter and stronger than ever.
The fact that all you doctors and nurses have not let go and keep on
doing your part in the fight to help these children live longer, healthier
lives is nothing short of inspiring.
Thank you so much for your work. Thank you so much for your love.
Thank you so much for helping keep Danny Thomas's dream strong.
May the legacy of St. Jude Children's Resarch Hospital continue to be
an important part of the American dream and may there one day be
a time when a primary cure for all diseases is found and no innocent little
boy or girl dies in the dawn of life ever again.
