All because of this, my life has changed beyond recognition.
I'm no longer that person whom I once was;
the girl filled with hopes and pipe dreams; those far off
fantasies that had the possibility in coming true if only
she would lay her mind to achievement and aim for the stars.
Lazy ribbons of selfish greed curl upwards from a stomach that
twists and turns bad-temperedly against the hands of fate.
Once upon a time seems fantastical, whilst happily ever after
a mere tease; like the horse and carrot forever straining to
grasp a reward that is eternally out of reach.
I battle onwards within the shroud of family; excluding hatred
whilst smothering bursts of heavenly love cast down upon
us all - with its familiar acrid taste of "too much is too much"
but there's no stopping the strength of such support - nor,
allowing oneself to admit that sometimes, I long to just be ...
ALONE!
All because of this, my life has changed beyond recognition.
Author notes
As you most know by now, my 29 year old sister was diagnosed with lung cancer in July.
It has changed my life beyond recognition.

This poem doesn't tell us what happened and we have to take your word for it that it changed your life. This pom is more about your struggle to process an event the nature of which and the consequences of which are left unknown. Thank you for your entry.
