Crossed out

I knew it was going to feel strange

  the Wednesday after you vanished
from the responsibilities of love

    I walked the graveyard pretending to be utterly lost
in reality
  the sad reality
      I was walking away from that tombstone

"Loving husband"?
  hardly
anyone categorized as such
  brings flowers and chocolates
  to a table of family chatter

instead of grasping the air
  for a heart that's stopped

  * * *

I drew a neat cross
  through the bright exclamation marks
on my calendar;
  through the Wednesday
