making effort to stray from the past
when anxiously wrought
memories from afar
make it hard to hide tears that last
I can't stop spinning in circles

I am waiting for miracles
straight from the books
and refusing to start life anew
I refuse to concede
to the rules of the game
reaching out for the things you have touched
I can almost imagine
your face as you told me
that I have expected too much

Inspired by Iris by Goo Goo Dolls
I did my best to stray from rhyming, but after listening to the memory-laden song a few times, I couldn't stray from the melody. This is the first rhyming poem I'd written in ages.
