A Sunny Day Again

Dark clouds move in front of the sun,
Shielding you from it's rays,
There's nothing anyone can do,
And you're lost in the gray haze.

You slip and fall in puddles,
The rain pushing you down,
And then before you know it,
You begin to drown.

But there's a light in the darkness,
Able to make it through the black,
They pull you up, they make you fight,
They're never going to let you go back.

Rain pours down around you,
Dark clouds are overhead,
You're getting wet and you don't care,
Because for once sunshine's ahead.

Sun peeks out from behind the clouds,
Puddles are no more,
Everything is going right,
And you're not sad like you were before.

Author notes

We just did an assignment in my Language Arts class where we had to write about one of either the happiest, saddest, or funniest moments in our lives. I chose to write about a happy moment- when my friend Anna beat her depression and her anorexia. This piece is from her point of view, and was totally inspired by her and by one of MyNameIsEmily's newest pieces, which is very good, by the way, you should definitely read it- it's called "Ray of Sunshine".

What do you think, honestly? There is no room for pointless fluff in your comment.

I plan to revise this poem: please leave constructive criticism!

Not only it is a great poem and a good rhyme, which is hard to do, I also like the inspiration for it, because that is a very happy event. I struggled with anorexia and depression and still do and its nice to hear about someone who defeated it. All in all a great poem. But my favorite line had to be "But there's a light in the darkness,
Able to make it through the black"

I like the piece as a whole, and I love the story behind it that you shared in your author's notes. It's important to express our feelings about depression and having support to get better. But to be honest, this is not the first poem I've read where depression is likened to the rain and getting better is likened to the sun. It's certainly a great metaphor that is easily seen in nature, but it's becoming overused.
Nevertheless, I hope you got a high grade on your assignment, and I'm very happy for your friend =)

    uplifting and healing....

this is a great poem for it's understanding of depression and giving such a positive message that no matter how dark it feels, with help there is always a ray of hope and happiness ahead. very well written.
