Reawakened

Please, please don't forget me.  In the height of pain and anguish, I have felt senses tingle involuntarily, reminding me of what I once had, and how I let it drop casually from my life, to rot in the cold dirt that surrounds the plains beneath my feet. 

Now, screaming at the sky, watching as each drop of water intensifies until my body convulses and collapses under the pressure, I see a world that I have destroyed, people lying around the remains of my existance, with nothing left, just a look of loss and hurt in their once fragile eyes.

And as the piano gently drifts into the background the music fades from my life, and just for a minute, I see everything as it was, no searching for hands in dark rooms, the music is light and everything is just...right, my life flashing before my eyes as I'm drawn back to this battle field.

I kneel next to your strewn body, your lips now so pale with exhaustion, tired of fighting to get the me you once knew back, your eyes glazing over as your soul slips out of my life, I lay a kiss gently on your forehead, then you melt into the floor, I hear you in the distance, outside the confides of my world that trapped you, I hear your laugh, and a smile wearily dawns upon my now blue lips.

I look to the heavens once more, the rain has stopped, nothing is locking me down, gravity lost its pull on me when I met you, and with the rain gone, because I am no longer being punished for keeping you, nothing holds me to this earth.  As my soul creeps gently to the sky, one wish is heard by all, murmered from my ever disappearing lips; "remember me in your dreams my love".

And all is quiet.
