Seasons

Summer is over, autumn on the rise
The sun sits much lower in the sky.
Days are comfortable, humidity's down
Nights are chilly when they come around.
Leaves are turning into colors that gleam
Like gemstones reflecting the sun when seen.
Those summer blooms are all but gone
Their dried petals scattered across the lawn.
The squash and pumpkins welcome cooler eves
Most mornings we find a light frost on their leaves.
It won't be long before we can savor
The tasty treats made of their flavor.
Autumn's bounty of gifts will soon end we know
Where they nurtured in sunshine soon will be snow.
The sun that warmed us so nicely in July
Will soon be only a light in the sky.
It's rays spread across new fallen snow
Creating a diamond-like glistening glow.
Then one day all the snow will melt down
A sprig of life will be seen sprouting from the ground.
Spring will arrive and all will be reborn
As the seasons continue to change and move on.

This is why I can never pinpoint a particular season that is my favorite. The moment I begin to tire of the restlessness the amazing change takes over. These could be lyrics to a beautiful folk melody. It's always nice to read a rhyme that isn't forced, too. "Spring will arrive and all will be reborn / As the seasons continue to change and move on." What a somber end like the coming of a new season.
