Suspense

seventeen and a pariah
she walks the halls, her eyes cast down
a dark veil shields her, a shadow born
of darkness and doubt
treading a long road to an unknown end
she thinks "another year, wait, wait..."
but she is slipping,
inches day by day fall
from her reaching fingers
drowning in a silent sea
of lost hopes and broken dreams
she can't see the shore, and
eddying currents, denizens below,
sweep closer, water vultures,
sap her strength until death beckons
but still she won't give in
she thinks "one more month, wait, wait..."
to come this far and fail is death she knows
and digs her nails in deeper

What did you think

This is amazing. Thank you for sharing it. I loved the last line, the imagery is incredible. I really related to it, although my situation is completely different, that's exactly how I feel right now.
